On the 17th June 2017, Italian born Lucia and I were booked by specialist Vintage company Lipstick and Curls. We provided vintage makeup and hair skills for budding 1940’s and 50’s vixen’s. Vintage makeup artist Fiona Tanner and colleague transformed the Hen Party Girl’s into pin ups for their special night out.
Firstly, hair was sprayed with Baptiste dry shampoo to remove any excess oil and to enhance the ability to tease the hair. Additionally, hair was sectioned and then curled using tong’s of various sizes; depending on the style.
A teasing hair spray was then applied so that the the curl could be structured and strengthened. Most noteworthy, Bobby pins were crossed under each curl and then a hair pin pushed against and under to secure the creations. Dax shine wax and finishing spray was applied to hold the style.
Fiona Tanner, a vintage makeup artist and hair stylist then applied eye makeup for several ladies. She emphasised brows, eye liner and lashes in a typical retro vintage style. Further more; moisturiser and oil-control with primer was then applied to each lady. With a foundation, concealer, light contour of the face and blusher. Finally, red lips were smoothed on to finish the look.
It is worth noting that Fiona has 15 years experience in makeup. Additionally, she boasts 8 years specialising as a vintage makeup artist and vintage hair stylist. She is never more happy then creating this classic and flattering style. With 4 years of fashion history lessons under her belt; she is very aware and informed about makeup and hair styles, influences and fashions of the 20th Century and beyond. She is the go-to girl for any retro beauty look.
As well as vintage makeup artist skills, Fiona also works as a photographer and retoucher so she is perfect for a birthday or Christmas day treat as a pin-up photographer or boudoir photographs…she also give styling advice.
